DreamHost was just a small company when first established in 1997. Since then, they have come a long way, going from a single Pentium 100 to well over 700 servers. DreamHost currently hosts more than 200,000 websites with 50 times the processing power they began with. While they have certainly made strides in the industry, one thing about this company has remained the same throughout – the commitment to providing their clients with quality service and friendly support.

Reliability (4/5)
While customer reviews have been mostly positive, we couldn’t find anything on the website regarding DreamHost’s reliability. They do however, offer a 97-day money back guarantee, which is the longest trial period offered by any web hosting company on the market.
Price Value (3/5)
DreamHost runs on the reliable Debian Linux operating system. For only $5.95 per month they offer several useful features including a free domain, unlimited domain hosting and advanced features such as blogging software and file streaming. They are lacking in the area of storage and bandwidth in comparison to industry standards. The basic plan comes with 500 GB of storage which increases by 2 GB on a weekly basis. You only receive 5 GB of bandwidth at signup though it increases by 40 GB on a weekly basis. These limitations may be rather unattractive for someone looking to instantly generate a lot of web traffic.
Control Panel (4/5)
Instead of using a control panel like Plesk or cPanel, DreamHost offers their very own program that works just as well. The control panel includes a one-click feature similar to Fantastico. Scripts such as WordPress, Joomla, Moodle and Zen Cart can be installed with ease. They also provide a demo login which allows you to test out the control panel and get familiar with the features.
Customer Support (3/5)
Support is a very important aspect of web hosting and DreamHost is somewhat lacking in this department. They do offer 24-hour support via email along with comprehensive online documentation in DreamHost Wiki and the DreamHost forum. This is where you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions. Phone support is available, however, it will cost you an additional $9.99 per month in which you’ll receive up to three call-backs per month.
Overall Value (3.5/5)
DreamHost is a great solution for many of your web hosting needs. They provide you with a plethora of features for a low monthly fee. However, their lack of bandwidth, storage and support makes them more suitable for small business purposes, though all plans include a number of e-commere tools.
For only $5.95 per month, DreamHost provides you with unlimited email accounts, spam filtering, free blogging software and much more. Their 97-day money back guarantee is an industry-best!

I have been hearing a lot of bad thing about Dreamhost. Some are saying that they are having some problem because of the shared hosting. It turns out that some sites are a problem that it is affecting everyone on the hosting account.

A word advice: Keep Away From Dreamhost! The only way to describe Dreamhost’s tech support team is that they are incompetent. The company should be renamed as NightmareHost!
Dreamhost is the worst hosting company I have ever dealt with. I’m responsible for number of websites and by mistake I choose Dreamhost for the newest client (askdivine.com)!
They have disabled my website which is only two weeks old, and it is offline for well over 24hrs because of a security threat!
Apparently a phishing page was uploaded to the account. After removing the threat they also have disabled the website, which was absolutely unnecessary!
Their excuse was that the old versions of WordPress, PHPBB, etc. are the common causes for this sort of thing – the irony is that I have never used any of them!
Anyway, I went through the files and told them everything is OK and 10 hrs later came up with a new excuse that our web software itself is the threat – and we need to update Joomla. According to them Joomla 1.5.11 has potential vulnerabilities.
Cut the story short, I have upgraded to Joomla! 1.5.12. and the website is still down! I have submitted a new ticket support over 7 hrs ago and no response yet!

Dreamhost is suck and really suck!! This one is a must avoid list for anyone looking a hosting company. Their uptime is totally crap. They are a liar and they even lies with “100% Uptime Guarantee”. How could they saying that? Their uptime is only 85% estimated. Their 100% uptime is about give the credit back in your account if the downtime happen WTF!
Again, read carefully in their TOS before make decision.

I have been using dreamhost for the last four years without much of trouble except for server down twice and it took a day each both time. Otherwise the service was very good and worth the money I paid. Most of the reviews I read are clearly biased against dreamhost.
I would suggest dreamhost as a host. There VPS is also good in comparison with others. Control panel is remarkably well done and is easy to manage the services.
Support is little slow, but most of the things we do seek from the support can be obtained through the wiki pages dreamhost maintains and many other online resources, just need to google that.

I forgot to mention that there reliability is not the best in industry. At the same time dont expect the reliability of NASA systems from a small roadside system operator. Even NASA systems do fail at times.
Also the service during last two calendar years was without any major incidence to complain. Most of the reviews available are old during there budding days.

Thomas must be being paid to gave them such a high rating. They are never that good and not even an average level hosting company. A lot of downtime and awful support makes me disgusting on how they handle their business. I have filed BBB already. We will see.
