JustHost vs. Dreamhost

JustHost vs. Dreamhost

As a small business owner, you have many choices when it comes to deciding where to host your business website. The reasons for your final choice are even more complex. Here we try to help you break down the choice side by side with major web hosts in the industry.

In this comparison we have JustHost in one corner. JustHost is a relative newcomer to the hosting industry, but in a few short years they have established a major name for themselves with their affordable single hosting plan option.

Dreamhost is another reputable hosting company founded in 1997. They have weathered the dot com boom and bust and still operate with attractive hosting options including shared-server, VPS, collocation, and dedicated hosting making their brand extremely scalable for any size website.

Between these two hosts, who is best for you? Read on to discover our comparison and recommendation below.

Pricing

The JustHost “JustPlan” is only $4.45 per month. Clients can buy up to the “JustPlan Premium” for only $6.95 per month.

Dreamhost offers a single shared-server hosting plan for only $8.95 per month. Starting at only $15 a month clients can buy up to a VPS plan for additional resources and server privacy.

Products and Services

JustHost’s main focus is offering a single hosting plan at a very affordable price. They don’t offer a lot in extra products or services. They do, however, provide free marketing credits for all new clients, and provide a free website builder as well. They offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee, as well as an anytime money-back guarantee.

Dreamhost offers scalability hosting options for clients including VPS, collocation, and dedicated hosting as well. They also provide a free Google Adwords marketing credit for all clients. For just a few dollars extra a month clients can get a unique IP address as well. Dreamhost is also proud to be a “carbon neutral” web host. They purchase Renewable Energy Certificates, and do their part to offset their emissions. They also promise uptime with a 100% guarantee, and a 97-day money back guarantee.

Web Hosting Features

JustHost packs almost all their features in both of their plans including unlimited bandwidth, disk space, MySQL databases, and email accounts. The only difference is the JustPlan gets one free domain, and JustPlan Premium gets three. They provide plenty of support for popular scripting and 3rd party plugins, and offer cPanel control panel for account access. Mutli-media files are supported, and they also provide free e-commerce solutions.

The Dreamhost plan offers everything mentioned above, plus free 50+GB of backup each month. Also, Dreamhost clients get unlimited domains hosted on a single account.

Customer Service

JustHost offers support “24 hours a day”, but they are not clear whether that is through phone, chat, or just email. They do offer a user-friendly online help center with articles and tutorials.

Unfortunately Dreamhost is even worse on their contact support. No telephone. No email. Clients must submit a ticket through their web panel.

Recommendations

While JustHost does have a more desirable customer service contact and online help, JustHOst does have a much wider choice of hosting options for growing businesses. Their plans are all-inclusive and we feel the features are better than Dreamhost. Our recommendation goes to JustHost.
