iPage is also an experienced privately held company that has offered web hosting since 1998. With 1.5 million domains and over 1 million clients in their servers, iPage has become one of the top web hosting companies in the world serving customers in 150 countries.
Both companies have an exceptional product. But what are the differences and which one should you choose? We take the guesswork out with our review below.
Pricing
The iPage plan is simply priced but by far a simple product. For only $3.50 per month iPage clients get a plan that is packed with great features for both personal websites and professional sites designed by professional web developers.
The Web.com plan is priced at $11.95 per month and comes with a choice of either Linux or Windows platforms.
Products and Services
iPage wants their clients’ websites to succeed. To help them they offer a free domain registration for new customers, free website building software, and lots of promotional help with over $250 worth of marketing tools and pay per click credits.
Web.com also offers a free domain registration for their customers, and has a team of web professionals ready to help clients with website-related services for appropriate fees. Services include online promotion, search engine marketing and optimization, lead generation, logo design, and even e-commerce design. They also offer an email exchange hosting plan for those businesses who just want a Microsoft email host.
Web Hosting Features
The plans from both companies are designed for both novice and experienced web developers. All plans include unlimited disk space, email accounts, monthly data transfer, hosted domains, and MySQL databases. The Web.com Windows plan comes with extra Windows-based developer features such as ASP.NET, MS SQL, AJAX.NET, and is Silverlight compatible. Both companies offer generous free marketing tools and credits as well.
The iPage plan does come with some bonus features such as e-commerce support with a choice of shopping cart software, and multi-media support. Shopping cart software is available for an add-on price at Web.com. iPage also offers their customers a Green Certified banner for their websites since they purchase 100% wind energy through Renewable Energy Certificates.
Customer Service
Both web hosts offer 24 hour live support via telephone. iPage also offers live chat as well for their customers. Web.com offers customers an online help center with a few articles and other resources. However, iPage comes through for their customers with an extensive online knowledgebase filled with articles, video tutorials, FAQs, and website help.
Recommendations
Both iPage and Web.com offer a great hosting package. While Web.com does offer additional support for Windows platform development, their prices are higher than industry average and the support is inferior to that offered by iPage. For the extreme value in their package and outstanding support, iPage gets our recommendation.
