iPage VS SiteGround
Five years ago in 2005 SiteGround broke ground and entered the web hosting arena. Their strategy was to penetrate the market with a rich portfolio of web hosting services and offer geographically strategic data centers in four locations in the US. In that short 5 years SiteGround has grown to over 250,000 websites and continues to grow with their single and affordable shared hosting plan.

iPage remains one of the top ten web hosting services that has its roots back to 1998. Through the dot-com boom and bust iPage has remained a solid contender in the web hosting services industry with a single plan and loads of features for their customers, which now totals more than 1 million.
Pricing
Pricing for both iPage and SiteGround is extremely comparable. Both companies offer a shared hosting plan with “unlimited” features for under $4 per month. The iPage plan is $3.50 per month with a 3-year plan ($4.50 for 2-year plan), and the SiteGround plan is offered at $3.95 per month. At the time of this review, the $3.95 offering was on special for any plan length from 1 month to 3 years.
Products and Services
When it comes to extra products and services iPage continues to rise to the top. iPage offers an exceptional array of web hosting products such as domain registration, web site management tools, email services, ecommerce services, account add-ons, and marketing services. In addition, iPage is a “green” company, meaning they purchase 100% of their energy consumption with Renewable Energy Certificates. Any customer can proudly display a “green” banner or badge on their website for this extra service.
SiteGround doesn’t have as wide of a spectrum of extra services, but they do offer a free website transfer for new customers with an existing website, and free domain registration.
As well, both companies offer regular website file backup and a free site builder with loads of templates and themes to choose from.
Web Hosting Features
iPage is much more detailed about their hosting plan features. They offer unlimited data transfer, disk space, email accounts, MySQL databases, hosted domains, and plenty of support for scripting, multi-media, and free e-commerce shopping cart selection.
The SiteGround plan also offers unlimited disk space, transfer, email accounts, MySQL databases, and comes with lots of scripting support as well as a free osCommerce shopping cart. The SiteGround plan is guaranteed for 99.9% uptime, and offers a better choice of control panel with cPanel, the industry leader in account management software.
Customer Service
When it comes to multiple modes of support contact, iPage takes a wide lead. iPage offers 24 hour support via telephone, chat, and email, and offers an extensive online support center loaded with articles and tutorials.
SiteGround, on the other hand, offers “24 hour support,” but only through an online support ticket submission. They do have a phone contact but it is only for sales support during business hours. SiteGround does also offer online tutorials and an online forum.
Recommendations
While the pricing is similar, iPage takes a hefty lead over SiteGround for superior customer support and features. iPage gets our recommendation for the best plan at the best price.
