Greengeeks VPS Vs Inmotion VPS

Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting is growing in popularity. The benefits to VPS are much like having a dedicated server plan without the high cost. VPS hosting can cost as little as $20 a month, which compares very similarly to shared hosting plans.

Greengeeks formed their brand of hosting with the notion of being “Green” with their energy usage. They buy 300% of their electricity through Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s), and all clients get to announce their environmentally friendliness with a “Green” badge. In addition to shared hosting plans, Greengeeks also offer VPS hosting as well.

Inmotion (inmotionhosting.com) started their brand of web hosting in 2001 and have since expanded to sell shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans.

But which VPS plan may be right for your growing business? Read our comparison and recommendation below.

Pricing

Inmotion Hosting starts their VPS plans at $39.95, and they have two other plans going for $74.95/mo, and $149.95/mo, all with annual billing.

Greengeeks offers five levels of VPS plans for $19.95, $29.95, $39.95, $69.95, and $79.95 per month, all with monthly billing.

Products and Services

With Greengeeks VPS plans clients get two free dedicated IP addresses, free nightly backup, and use of cPanel for easy migration and account control.

Inmotion VPS clients also get cPanel, free data backup, and free “burstable” RAM that allows a user to go above their dedicated RAM for short temporary periods of time. The Inmotion 6 and 12 month VPS plans all come with a 90 day money back guarantee.

Web Hosting Features

Inmotion offers their 3 plans with growing levels of dedicated memory, data transfer, and disk space. Their first plan comes with 265MB of RAM, 500GB of transfer, and only 40GB of disk space. The middle plan is set with 512MG of RAM, 1000GB of transfer, and 80GB of space. The third plan comes with 1024MB of RAM, 1500GB of transfer, and 160GB of space. Plans also come with dedicated IP addresses with 2, 5, and 10 addresses respectively.

The 5 Greengeeks VPS plans come with RAM in the amounts of 385MB, 512MB, 768MB, 1024MB, and 1536MB respectively. Disk storage is 10GB, 25GB, 50GB, 75GB, and 100GB. And their data transfer allotment is 150GB, 500GB, 750GB, 1000GB, and 1250GB respectively. All plans come with 2 IP addresses.

Both the Greengeeks and Inmotion VPS plan can be used as resell plans. Both come with the setup available to sub-bill individual clients if a business wants to use buy a VPS plan and subdivide into separate shared-hosting plans.

Customer Service

Both companies offer 24 hour support. Inmotion is the only one that offers 24 hour telephone support as well as 24 hour email. Greengeeks offers business hours only telephone support, but do offer 24 hour chat and email contact.

Both offer very helpful online knowledgebases with video tutorials and plenty of articles.

Recommendations

Inmotion does not have as wide of a variety of VPS plans as Greengeeks, but they do offer plenty more IP addresses, and a very attractive “burstable” RAM allotment. For these reasons our recommendation goes to Inmotion VPS.
