FatCow VS SiteGround

FatCow VS SiteGround

Both SiteGround and FatCow have one thing in common – simplicity. Instead of inundating potential customers with dozens of hosting accounts to choose from, each has one simple hosting plan with everything you could want all under one account.

Pricing

Regularly charging $9.95 a month, SiteGround is offering their web hosting account for only $1.95 a month. Accounts are loaded with unlimited traffic, web space and e-mail accounts. FatCow offers unlimited e-mail accounts, storage, monthly bandwidth, and FTP users and subusers for $66 a year (approximately $5.50 a month). Ecommerce tools, Google webmaster tools, marketing software and a large selection of popular scripts are all available at both FatCow and SiteGround. SiteGround differs from FatCow in that it also has reseller and dedicated hosting accounts available.

Products and Services

In addition to its web hosting account, FatCow offers Microsoft Exchange Mail accounts and Microsoft Exchange Mobile services for additional monthly fees. SiteGround offers three VPS (virtual private server) accounts ranging from $99 to $199 a month (with a setup fee of $49). The reseller services they also provide run $42 per year per account – a discount for multiple accounts is also available.

SiteGround has chosen cPanel as its control panel of choice for hosting accounts. cPanel is an easy-to-use package that allows the user to perform needed hosting tasks quickly and efficiently. FatCow has opted to use its own proprietary control panel that has simplicity at the heart. It has been built with an easy to use navigation and is categorized using color-coding, enabling the user to see what options are available to them.

One nice bit of eco-news is FatCow is 100% wind powered – this alone may be enough for the discerning buyer.

Web Hosting Features

If you’re looking for a lot of site and marketing tools, both companies have a lot to offer – Google business services, several CMS programs, blogging add-ons and a good selection of Ecommerce programs are just a few items available. 99.9% server uptime and 24×7 customer service are part of the deal as well at both SiteGround and FatCow.

Customer Service

E-mail, phone, and live chat are standard support services with both companies. Additionally, each also has extensive FAQ’s, tutorials and live chat support. In a variety of customer reviews SiteGround has received above average scoring in the area of support. FatCow and its -Moo Crew- have also received very high marks. Bound by the -Heifercratic Oath-, they have pledged to always treat their customers with an enthusiastic attitude and ensure all support requests are dealt with in a expedient manner.

Recommendations

With both companies offering pretty close to the same in web hosting options and available features, either company is a good bet for your next hosting choice. The two areas where FatCow seems to come out ahead is its support ethic and its eco-friendly power source. So, if support and being green are your priorities, FatCow is the way to go. However, if you are in need of a VPS or reseller account, the choice is clearly SiteGround.
