Codero Vs Hostgator Dedicated
When an online business outgrows the resources of available from a shared hosting plan (does anyone really believe in “unlimited” bandwidth?), then it’s time to consider upgrading to a dedicated server hosting plan. And with the growing number of businesses upgrading to dedicated server options, more and more hosting companies are offering this type of hosting for their clients.
Codero was founded as a subsidiary of Aplus.net in 2009 with the focus of providing higher level hosting options, including dedicated and cloud hosting. They also provide an aim to providing “green” hosting through energy-saving policies.

Hostgator started in a college dorm room in 2002, and has since grown into one of the largest hosts in the US. They have expanded their hosting options to include VPS and dedicated hosting as well, and also have a “green” energy policy.
But which one of these notable hosts is worthy of your dedicated hosting business? Take a look at our comparison and recommendation below.
Pricing
Hostgator offers 4 levels of dedicated hosting that goes for $139/mo, $175/mo, $223/mo, and $299/mo. All dedicated hosting plans can be either Linux or Windows platform.
Codero offers dedicated hosting plans based on the choice of processor and size of hard drive. Prices start at $122.50 and go up to $450 for the high-end dedicated server option.
Products and Services
Codero offers managed hosting on top of their dedicated hosting plans. This is a key element for small to medium sized businesses who do not have the IT staff on hand to manage the day-to-day processes of a dedicated server. Codero also offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee.
Hostgator offers a software licensing bundle that comes free with any plan. They also offer managed hosting for their dedicated servers. Plus, Hostgator offers Parallel’s Plesk control panel with all dedicated server accounts.
Web Hosting Features
Hostgator plans start with an Intel Xeon 3450 processor, 2GB of RAM, 2 x 250GB hard drives, 5 TB of bandwidth, and 5 dedicated IP addresses. Plans go up in resources to a high level of Xeon 3470 Quad-Core processor, 8GB RAM, 2 x 500GB hard drives, 10TB of bandwidth, and 9 IP’s.
Codero offers both Xeon and Core processors, and even dual processors for the upper level web servers. RAM availability is only 4GB for all plans. And hard drives range from 250GB to 500GB. Codero will often offer “Server Deals” on unused or outdated servers which still have attractive resources and go between $100 and $200.
Customer Service
Hostgator offers 24 hour support via chat and email, and limited hours phone support. They do provide an online help center that does have plentiful video tutorials, but lacks in number of articles.
Codero also offer 24 phone support and email contact. Their online knowledgebase contains a number of helpful articles, but no other video tutorials or user guides.
Recommendations
Both companies offer a wide range of useful dedicated server hosting options. But with a wider choice of servers, a great uptime guarantee, and a managed hosting option on all plans, our recommendation goes to Codero.
