Volusion is quite the competitor however, having been in business since 1999 with over 100,000 customers it is an eCommerce giant as well. Pricing
Both companies offer starter plans that cost around $24.99 per month, but as you begin to look at some of the more comprehensive and expensive plans the price margins begin to separate. Volusion’s Silver plan is the equivalent of BigCommerce’s Gold plan, yet it costs $20 less. But here is where the prices really differ – the most expensive plan offered by both companies are $140 apart. The most expensive plan offered by Volusion – the Platinum Plan is only $159.99 per month. Meanwhile, the comparative Diamond plan offered by BigCommerce costs $299.99 per month! As you can see, the more comprehensive plans are much more affordable when purchased from Volusion.

Both companies offer three additional products and services apart from web hosting which compliment their hosting plans. BigCommerce offers SSL security certificates, payment processing plans, and website design. Volusion offers marketing, website design, and online store setup. Volusion is one of the most unique eCommerce solutions because it specializes in helping novice webmasters setup professional websites. Both companies offer competitive prices for all of their extracurricular producst and services.
Web Hosting Features
BigCommerce’s most comprehensive hosting plan offers 45GB of bandwidth, unlimited product slots, and 3GB of disk space. BigCommerce also offers a $100 Google Adwords credit with this plan, and every BigCommerce plan comes with some sort of Google Adwords credit. Volusion’s most comprehensive plan comes with 25Gb bandwidth, unlimited product slots and special site designing tools. BigCommerce, specializes in larger more comprehensive plans, while Volusion gears it’s plans more towards the novice webmaster that needs help setting up an online store.
Customer Service
Both companies offer highly professional service that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both hosting providers also have a comprehensive knowledgebase that can solve just about any problem. However, Volusion does set itself apart by offering a special support module for building stores and managing them.
Recommendations
Ultimately the choice between these two companies depends entirely upon what you’re looking for. If you need an extremely powerful eCommerce hosting plan then BigCommerce would be ideal. However if you’re looking for a company that can help you get your online business off the ground, the Volusion seems to be an optimal solution. Both companies match up evenly with support, and although Volusion is more affordable, it’s most expensive plans cannot match up with BigCommerce’s in regards to features and flexibility. When it comes to experience Volusion takes the win by a few years, but this should not be a factor considering BigCommerce also has nearly a decade of experience themselves.
